Making it about ordinary people

While this is a small book of mostly local interest, it was a very big step in my writing journey. It began as a fundraising exercise for a historic cathedral, but helped lead into my wider writing career. Coming as my first major writing project after a very technical PhD dissertation, I used this book as an opportunity to try something a bit different. I wanted to tell a sort of church history that was about the community, not just the clerics; and a building's story that was about the builders and fundraisers, not just the architects. It taught me to enjoy writing against convention.
