I was already working on Under Fire when the Christchurch massacre occurred in New Zealand. That horrible event took place on the day of my Hobart booklaunch for my previous book, Kosciuszko. It really made me think how important it was that we remember how far we have come. Australia was well on the wrong path, and the story of how it turned is one of our most significant national achievements.
